Happy September!
We might still have a few weeks left of summer, but we're all about fall and getting ready for sweater weather. I've transitioned into my fall/winter/holiday knitting. I've made my first two gifting items already. A pair of socks for a family friend using Juliette Pécaut Designs TAATTU sock formula using some of my favorite DK weight yarn from Dirty Water DyeWorks, and the Bitty Bump sweater from Gina Bonomo for my niece using some hand spun bulky yarn from Keira Wiggins.
For myself I'm making a November Vest from Petite Knit using our undyed Alpaca Sport. The yarn and vest are beautiful, but it's sorely lacking in size inclusivity and luckily it's a vest I don't need to hold closed or I'd be a little worried about it.
I'm thinking a lot about my next project too. I bought yarn for a Sheep Camp, but also have yarn for two more Lentos and I'm not sure what to work on first. Keep an eye on our Instagram and help me pick out my next project!
There's so much to get into this September and I'm so excited for what's on the horizon! Keep reading for exciting events, classes, and pre-orders!
Classes
September and October classes are now up on Sawyer. There are a few that I'm really excited about.
Our My First Sweater class is the perfect class for beginner knitters who want to make a sweater and for seasoned knitters who need some accountability to create a sweater. In this four session class starting on September 10th you'll swatch, knit, and finish a sweater!
Learn colorwork in our Colorwork Cup Cozy class! In this class we'll be using the autumn Doodle Deck from Pacific Knit Co. to make a sleeve for your PSL this fall.
I'm most looking forward to our Rug Hooking class. Join local artist Isabel Ardito Lebo and make a small rug hooked tapestry. This class is great for crafters who want to branch out to something new or total beginners who are hoping to learn a new hobby.
Events & Trunk Shows
September is the beginning of our busy season and fittingly our September is very, very busy. We're welcoming trunk shows Della Q (9/17-10/1), Loopy Mango (9/20-10/20), and Beach Bum Yarn (9/21-10/6).
Della Q will be sending samples of two of their collections, including their very popular train case and I'm really excited to see their cross-body bags. Their samples will be available to order to ship directly to you.
Loopy Mango will be sending samples in Merino No. 5 and Dream, two of my favorite yarns. The Loopy Mango book will be available and all patterns will be available for free with the purchase of any of their yarn.
Beach Bum Yarn is a new to me local dyer that I'm so excited to have in the shop. We'll have a selection of her colorways on a few bases. We're always so happy to have new yarn from local dyers in the shop.
On top of trunk shows we've got an event with local bag maker Crista Jaeckel. She'll be in the shop for our Sip+Stitch on September 13th to talk about making bags, check out your projects, and show off some new products. We'll have a trunk show of her bags all weekend long.
Make sure you don't forget to sign up for our Camp BFC Road to Rhinebeck Knit-A-Long. Local maker Juliette Pécaut Designs designed a bandana for the BFC bus trip to the New York Sheep and Wool Festival. You don't have to be signed up for the bus trip to join the KAL though, anyone can sign up on Sawyer to join along!
Greater Boston Yarn Crawl
We can't wait for this years Greater Boston Yarn Crawl! From Thursday September 26th through Sunday September 29th go from shop to shop, collecting stamps for your passport and entering drawings! We'll have special trunk shows from Wild Violet Fibers, Honey & Quill Fiber Co., and Dirty Water DyeWorks along with a restock of our in-house yarn.
Stay busy with us this September and join in on our classes, trunk shows, and groups all month long!
Happy crafting!
Love,
Sara and the BFC Team
